Tech Addictions Impact Relationships

Could you spend a day without ever touching a computer keyboard or cell phone? Some people think high tech devices can be as addictive as a habit-forming drug. Psychologists say obsession with new technology can mess up people's lives. They are calling this problem "technology overload."

What are the symptoms of a technology overload? If you spend all your time on your cell phone, that could cause a problem with your family and friends who want to talk to you in person. People addicted to tech often prefer to be online or texting, rather than spending time with people face to face.

They also get irritated when they lose a signal or the Internet's down. Another sign that your tech is controlling you is if you lose track of time while online. If your phone or computer is the first thing you check in the morning and the last thing at night, you might be too plugged in.

How many people suffer from technology overload? Experts at one clinic estimate that six to 10 percent of the people who surf the web may have this problem. Therapists suggest that people talk to someone face to face if they think their tech habit is getting out of control. There are also clinics to help people set limits so that technology does not rule their lives.

I'm Isaac and that's what happened in technology this week.
