Star Wars Characters will Appear on U.S. Postal Stamps
The price of a first class stamp is about to go up to 41 cents, but Star Wars fans won't mind a bit. The United States Post Office is issuing a series of fifteen Star Wars stamps this May. The stamps will be released on the thirtieth anniversary of the first Star Wars movie. The stamps will have the Star Wars logo and images from the movies like the second Death Star under construction and a space battle with X-Wing fighters.
Is your favorite Star Warrior Han Solo or Darth Vader? How about R2D2? Every American can vote online for their favorite of the fifteen. On May 23rd, voting will end. The winning stamp will be issued singly, unlike the others that will be issued together in a book of stamps.
Fans got their first look at the new stamps at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. The Post Office unveiled the new stamps, which featured pictures from all six movies. Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Imperial Storm Troopers were just three of them.
For two weeks before the event in Los Angeles, the Postal Service decorated 400 mailboxes around the country to make them look like R2D2. The Post Office will also have Star Wars themed express mail packs until September 30th.
