Scientist Creates Robotic Twin!
Did you ever wish you had another you to do your homework while you play outside? Well, that day just got closer. A Japanese scientist created a robot copy of himself!
Hiroshi Ishiguro made rubber molds of his body and put them together over a machine that looks and moves just like he does. It even talks. He named it Geminoid H-1.
Ishiguro controls the robot remotely. He wears sensors on his body so that when he moves, his robot twin moves the same way. He created the robot because he got tired of the long drive to Osaka University where he teaches. Now he can teach from his home while his robot sits in class moving and talking just like he does!
He calls it "roboting in". If his robot experiment is successful, we could see more of them. Tim Hornyak, a journalist for Wired magazine, was at a demonstration of Geminoid H1 in Japan. He said that he could imagine a day when people use robot copies of themselves to work from home to avoid driving in rush hour traffic jams.
According to Mr. Hornyak, Gemini H1 looked so much like the Mr. Ishiguro that he could easily have been mistaken for the real thing. Imagine a world where you can't tell the difference between a human and a robot!
I'm Adelbert and that's what happened in science this week!
Tell me what you think about robots looking like humans in this week's Call Out!
