12-year-old Girl Makes Golfing History
A 12-year-old made it into the United States Women's Open! Cool! That makes Alexis Thompson the youngest to qualify in history of the golf event. Alexis has played golf since the age of five. She played two rounds in the event before she failed to make the cut. Although she finished far behind, she described her experience as - what else? - "awesome!" Alexis is the latest example of younger girls doing great in golf.
Also at the Open was Angela Park. She's 18 and did great! She tied for second place. Way to go, Angela!
Paula Creamer is another famous female golfer. She started at the age of 10. When she was still a senior in high school, Paula won the Sybase Classic tournament. Since then she's had five professional wins! Awesome!
Then there is Michelle Wie, who is 17. She began playing golf when she was just four years old. Michelle is the youngest player ever to win a United States Golf Association, or USGA, event for adults. She's also the first female to qualify for a USGA national men's tournament.
It's a great year of golf for girls, and the future is wide open.
I'm Lucy and that's what happened in sports this week!
Play my Match Game and see if you can come in under par!
