Mystery Mummy's Identity Revealed!

A tooth solved the mystery of the unknown mummy in Egypt last week! A hundred years ago, a tomb was discovered in the Valley of the Kings. Inside the tomb was an unknown mummy.

The mummy was recently brought to a museum in Cairo. Scientists found that a tooth that belonged to an Egyptian queen named Hatshepsut fit perfectly in the mummy! They realized it had to be her. Queen Hatshepsut, the most powerful female pharaoh, ruled Egypt for twenty years until she died in 1458 BC.

In Ancient Egypt, people did things to preserve their pharaoh's body for the afterlife. Pharaoh was what they called their ruler. They treated the body with chemicals, wrapped it, and put its internal organs in a box. The result was a mummy that can last thousands of years.

The box that held her tooth also contained her liver. The scientists examined the liver and discovered that Queen Hatshepsut had diabetes. They also think she might've died of cancer.

Archeologists are very excited to have identified the mummy. It's very rare to find a body that's over 3,500 years old and know who it was. I wonder what people will find from us thousands of years from now?

I'm Adelbert and that's what happened in Science this week!
