Virtual Bands To Rock the Videogame World

Are you ready to rock? MTV thinks you are, and has released a new videogame called Rock Band to prove it. The game is out for Xbox live and PlayStation 3. Rock Band is different from another incredibly successful music videogame, Guitar Hero, because players don't just play music. They create an entire band!

Rock Band uses the Internet to connect players, so that up to four people can play together in their band. Like Guitar Hero, the game plays music and the players have to hit the right buttons to score points.

The publisher of the game is MTV. Viacom, the company that owns MTV, is planning to spend $500 million on making video games in the next few years.

Rock Band can cost gamers up to $170 for the bundle of software and controllers that they need to play. Each week, MTV will release new songs for gamers to play in the game. The songs will cost $2 each to download. They will be a way for musicians to make money, and the game could also be a way for new artists to be discovered.

In the 1980s, MTV changed the way people enjoyed music by showing music videos. Now they hope that bringing music into games will have another huge impact on how fans enjoy their favorite songs.

I'm Isaac and that's what happened in Tech this week!

Do you think Rock Band could rival MTV as a force in pop music? Sound off in this week's Call Out.
