Tebow Takes Home the Heisman
Florida Gator quarterback Tim Tebow won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday and made history. Tim is the first sophomore to be named the best player in college football. Arkansas Razorback tailback Darren McFadden was the runner up for the second year in a row.
The Heisman trophy is an award that goes to the best college football player of the year. The first award was given in 1935. It is named after legendary football coach John Heisman who was a coach when the sport was just starting out. Heisman created the forward pass, and it was his idea to divide the game into four quarters. It was also his idea to put up the first scoreboard.
Tebow played like an MVP all year. He's the only player in NCAA history to score at least 20 touchdowns rushing and 20 touchdowns by passing in the same season. In one game against the University of South Carolina he rushed or passed for seven touchdowns! To finish his season, Tim will lead the Gators against the University of Michigan Wolverines in the Capital One Bowl on New Year's Day. And when he comes back as a junior next year, Tebow can shoot for another goal-joining Ohio State's Archie Griffin as the only players in history to win two Heismans!
I'm Lucy and that's what happened in sports this week!
