TV Writers Go Back To Work
The Writer's Strike is finally over. Now they can get back to work making the TV shows that we've been missing. A strike is when all the workers at a company, or in an industry, decide together that they don't like the way their employers are treating them. They all decide to strike, or stop working, until the bosses and the workers can agree on how things should be.
The two sides will argue and compromise until they have a plan they can all live with. Then they sign a new contract and the workers get back on the job. In this case, the writers were striking because they didn't get paid when the shows they wrote were sold over the Internet. The writers thought that if the show they made was making money online, they should get some of that cash.
The management disagreed, so the writers stopped working. After a few months, the studios agreed to give the writers a share of the money that the shows make online. It doesn't look like the writers will make up for the money they lost by not working during the strike, but they hope over the long term the strike was worth it.
I'm Ben and that's what happened in our nation this week.
