Dramatic Democratic Contest Continues

The race to be the Democratic candidate for president has turned into a marathon. Next week Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will compete in primaries in North Carolina and Indiana. Each wants to convince Democrats across the country that he or she is the best person for the job.

One reason that both Clinton and Obama are still in the race is because the primary election has been so close. Normally, one candidate has a majority of delegates and the nomination is decided by April. For example, John McCain is certain to be the Republican nominee because he is way ahead of Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, and the other people who ran against him in the Republican primary.

Although Obama has been in the lead, voters in Pennsylvania gave Clinton a big primary win last week. If Hillary had lost, she may have dropped out of the race. As it is, she's staying in at least until voters in North Carolina and Indiana have their say. Those states don't usually make much of a difference because they're primaries are so much later than other states. By the time they voted, things were pretty much decided. Not this time! And if neither candidate wins big, the race will continue to the handful of states that have yet to vote.

I'm Ben and that's what happened in our nation this week.
