Talented Teenager Wins Texting Title

How fast can you text? I bet not as fast as Morgan Pozgar! This thirteen-year-old girl from Claysburgh, Pennsylvania won twenty-five thousand dollars in a text message competition last weekend. In New York City's Roseland ballroom, 250 people competed for prize money in the LG National Texting Championship.

The contestants started with their hands behind their backs and their phones on a table in front of them. A monitor showed a message that everyone had to text.

One of the contestants was 21-year-old Eli Tirosh from Los Angeles, California. Eli won ten thousand dollars in a West Coast texting contest and was favored to win. After the preliminary rounds, the final three contestants were Eli, Morgan, and 23-year-old Michael Nguyen, also from Pennsylvania.

The phrase that determined the winner was from the musical Mary Poppins. It began with the word supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Morgan texted the sentence in just 42 seconds and claimed the title of champion.

Morgan said she was prepared for the contest. She estimated that she sends as many as 8,000 text messages a month. That's over 250 messages every day!

Morgan plans to spend some of the prize money shopping for clothes in New York and save the rest for college.
