Artists Go Global to Increase Greenhouse Awareness

Chicago's growing globes! 124 five-foot Earths sprouted up along the windy city's lakefront in June. They are a city-wide exhibit called Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet. They started as plain, white spheres and were decorated by artists from around the world. Each globe has some kind of message about global warming. They'll be on display until September.

Douglas Hoerr is one of the artists who made a globe. His is covered with 2,000 colorful packages for seeds. It's called "Plant A Garden." The idea is to get people to plant gardens and grow vegetables.

Another globe has collages made from art that was sent by kids from around the world. It's called "Listen to Our Children." The colorful continents and oceans were pasted together by Emile Abrams, who's 12-years-old. She got help from a professional artist, Michelle Korte Leccia.

Green Schools is another globe that makes the point that schools could save $1.5 billion by being more energy efficient. Caulking windows to keep in heat, growing plants on the roofs, and installing solar panels are three ways to make schools green and save money.

You don't have to go to Chicago to see these incredible works of art. They are posted on the Cool Globes website where you can also learn what you can to help fight global warming.

I'm Isaac and that's what happened in the arts this week!
