America Cancels Catfish Cargo from China

China's fish farms raise millions of catfish to be shipped to our country. But the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or FDA has temporarily blocked the fish filets. They say that the fish contain antibiotics and other chemicals that could be harmful. There've been no reports of people getting sick from the fish yet, but the FDA is playing it safe.

Products from China have been watched carefully ever since a problem with pet food was traced back to an ingredient from that country. Since then, inspectors looked into other Chinese made goods and found a lot of problems. There've been concerns about everything from snack foods to toothpaste. For instance, a snack food called Veggie Booty was found to be making some people sick. The flavor powder that they put on it was contaminated with harmful bacteria called salmonella.

The Chinese government insists that products made in China are safe. Now people want someone else to test the food and other things we buy from them. The Chinese government wants the world to know it is taking the problem seriously. Chinese officials say 180 food companies have already been closed for not following the country's rules and policies for food safety.
