Barry Bonds About to Make Home Run History
751 down and four to go! I'm talking about Barry Bonds, the super slugger for the San Francisco Giants. Barry has hit 751 home runs and will soon pass Hank Aaron's career record of 755. Before Hank Aaron, the record for home runs was held by Babe Ruth at 714.
Bonds first Major League season was in 1986. Back then, he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and that year he hit 16 home runs. He won his first of a record seven Most Valuable Player awards in 1990. In 1993, Barry broke another record when the San Francisco Giants offered him $43 million dollars to play for them for six years. That was baseball's highest salary at the time. Bonds hit 46 home runs in his first season with the Giants. In 2001, he shocked the baseball word when he blasted 73 round-trippers-a single season record.
A new home run record should be a time for celebration, but not everyone is rooting for Bonds. He's one of the players suspected of using steroids to add strength and improve his batting skills. Some fans wish he wasn't about to become baseball's all-time home run king. Others, including most Giant fans, are on his side. How will fans react when Aaron's record finally falls? Stay tuned to find out!
