TV Writers Go on Strike

If you get tired of watching reruns on TV, I've got some bad news. The Writers Guild, the union that represents television and movie writers, has gone on strike. Writers won't work until they get a new contract. Nearly everything an actor says on TV or in a movie is written by someone else first. The actors get all the attention, but the writers are a very important part of how TV shows and movies are made. Just like actors, the writers get paid for their work on the shows we all like to watch. Their old contract ended last week and the writers and their bosses at the TV networks and movie studios can't agree on how much the writers should be paid. The writers say they want a fair share of the money earned when the shows they helped to create are sold on DVD or put on the Internet and on cell phones.

TV shows like Heroes and 24 already have scripts in the works. But if the strike lasts a long time, they will run out of new episodes. The television networks can still show lots of reality shows and game shows since they do not need scripts. So, whether you like it or not, get ready for a heavy dose of reality and reruns.

I'm Isaac and that's what happened in the arts this week.
