Aquarium Turns Off the Faucet

Can you imagine an aquarium without water? The folks who run the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta have turned off a waterfall and emptied exhibits without fish to save as much water as possible. That's because Atlanta and much of the southeast is running low on water. They're in the middle of a drought. There has been so little rainfall this year that Lake Lanier, where the city of Atlanta gets its water, is drying up.

The city is trying new ways to conserve water. The aquarium closed down some exhibits and hopes to save about 3 million gallons of water a year. Car washes are shutting down, and public fountains have been turned off.

Besides conserving the water they use, Georgians are trying to keep more water in Lake Lanier. Florida and Alabama also take water from that lake. Two weeks ago, officials said that if all three states keep using the water then Atlanta could run out within a few months.

The governors of the three states agreed to work together to find a way to give Atlanta more drinking water from Lake Lanier and send less to the neighboring states. That will help, but the situation is still very serious. Unless there is a lot of rain in the next few months, Atlanta could run out of water.

I'm Ben and that's what happened in our nation this week.

Let's play the pinpoint game and identify the states that were mentioned in my story.
