Steroid Hall of Shame

The sport of baseball just got a report card, and nearly 90 current and former players were giving failing grades. Some of baseball's biggest stars were accused of using steroids or human growth hormone. These drugs may make players stronger, faster, and better ball players. But taking drugs to be a better ball player is cheating, and it's against the rules of baseball.

The Mitchell report is named after the man who investigated steroid use in the sport. George Mitchell is a former Senator. The baseball commissioner Bud Selig asked Mitchell to find out how bad the drug problem was in baseball.

Mitchell spent 20 months investigating the issue, and the news is pretty bad. It says that many players used steroids or human growth hormone, and that the coaches, player associations, commissioners and just about everyone else who was involved in baseball for the past 20 years shared the blame for all the steroid use. Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffield, Eric Gagne, Jason Giambi were just five of the Major League players who were named in the report for cheating with steroids. It's bad news for fans to see how big the problem is. Jim Bunning, a United States senator and former big league pitcher said that it was his saddest day. He wants every player who cheated to be stripped of his record.

I'm Lucy and that's what happened in sports this week!
