Kellogg Pulls Sugary Commercials
Do you start every morning with a bowl of sugary cereal? If so, it might be that commercials from cereal companies like Kellogg got to you!
For years, Kellogg uses cartoon ads of talking birds and toys to get kids interested in sweet cereal like Fruit Loops and Apple Jacks. Now that's going to change.
Kellogg announced that it's going to change the way it markets its popular breakfast foods to kids. Foods like super sweet cereals and Pop Tarts have a lot of sugar, fat, and sodium in them. They are part of the reason why more and more kids are becoming overweight. The company will try to change the formula of some popular breakfast foods to make them less unhealthy. If a cereal can't meet nutritional guidelines, Kellogg will stop advertising it to kids under 12.
Some parents worried about the way Kellogg advertised to kids. They threatened to sue the company after a study showed that those ads had an effect on the way kids eat. Now those parents say they won't sue. They are glad that Kellogg is changing the way the sell to kids. Everyone agrees that eating less sugar and getting more exercise is good for you!
I'm Ben and that's what happened in our nation this week!
Let's play the Match Game and see if you know loops from jacks!
