The Making of Jakers!

Words into Pigtures

Once the models, props and environments were completed in 2D, they were all scanned into computers using both Maya and Softimage XSI software. Here the 3D artists digitally sculpted the characters and sets, following the 2D designs as closely as possible. All the character maquettes (small models) were built in-house, as were the key sets. Then, using the digital cameras within the software applications, the sets were lit for various times of the day - e.g., house in the morning, house at noon, house at dusk and house at night.

While this digital design work was in progress, the storyboard artists spent up to six weeks storyboarding each script. The average JAKERS! storyboard would have upwards of 300 scenes and take up to 600 pages! The storyboard was then scanned and given to the animatic editor, who roughly timed out the episode.
