The Pig is in the Details
The completed animation is received in unedited batches of scenes, then digitized into an AVID editing system. The editor roughly assembles the show and then sits with the director to call retakes. If any scenes require a retake, the director communicates with the studio in India and they do the scene again. The editor and director continue to work through the show fine-tuning the scenes. The lipsynch (matching recorded dialogue to character mouth movements) is also tightened up and perfected.Once the episode has been edited to the correct length and everyone is basically happy with the assembly of the show, a cut is made and tapes are sent to the composer and sound effects editor. The composer writes music to the episode. The sound effects editor makes sure that the show has the appropriate sounds - doors closing, floors creaking, windows opening, phones ringing. A foley artist provides sound effects like footsteps or chewing noises.
Finally the music and sound are synched up, or matched, to the picture, and the sound levels are mixed to be sure that everything that needs to be heard, can be.
